An infant who is merely two weeks old is fighting for its life in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children after it was allegedly raped.
A 25-year-old man has since been charged with rape and grievous bodily harm of a child in court on Tuesday, according to the BBC. The accused’s name cannot be released due to a court-mandated gag order to protect the baby’s identity.
The baby was taken to the Belfast Hospital from the Annalong area of County Down. A spokesman from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) told the MailOnline that that the case is under investigation by the Serious Crime Branch:
“Detectives from PSNI Serious Crime Branch investigating an incident in which an infant from the Annalong area sustained a number of serious injuries, charged a 25 year old man with rape and grievous bodily harm with intent. The man appeared at Armagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 2.”
Investigations are ongoing.
