More details have emerged regarding the two-week-old baby in Northern Ireland who is fighting for its life after it was allegedly raped.
The 25-year-old man who was charged with the sexual assault and grievous bodily harm of the infant appeared in court today. The accused who is remanded in custody reportedly appeared before a judge at the Armagh Magistrates’ Court via video-link.
UK publication The Mirror reports that the man – whose name cannot be released due to a court-mandated gag order to protect the baby’s identity – only spoke to confirm his name.
No application for bail was granted during the court session today.
It has further been revealed that the baby was attacked on 29 September. The infant is still believed to be in critical danger, in the intensive care ward of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
